3 Main Types of Cables
There are three types of garage door cables: torsion spring cables, extension spring cables and safety cables. They come in various lengths, thicknesses and strand counts.
What Garage Door Cables Do You Need?
Torsion Spring Cables
These cables possess a loop right at the end which is connected to the base of the door using a crimped stop at the opposite end. These cables need to be linked and twisted in a particular way. Furthermore, each door height demands a certain size of cable.
Extension Spring Cables
These types of cables are being used on doors which have springs found each side within the track. Extension Spring Cables are generally constructed with a 7×7 cable in diameters of 3/32? or 1/8?. The standard configuration is a loop on one end and a bare end on the other. The length of the cable is measured from the bearing surface of the loop to the end of the cable. Cables are ordered in pairs.
These are used together with extension spring systems. This kind of cable is fastened at every end and is threaded over the extension spring. In case of a spring malfunction, the safety cable consists of both damaged ends of the spring, making sure they will not fly at great speed throughout your garage area.
